Jobs and Vacancies
KHRG is a small and flexible organisation with a long established international reputation. We work directly with local villagers on issues of concern to them, and also produce detailed human rights reports and conduct local and international advocacy. Karen people form the core of KHRG's staff and operations, and at present we are actively engaged in an ongoing effort to build the capacity of local people to conduct all aspects of the organisation's management.
Below are a list of our current full-time positions and volunteer openings. Closing dates on these positions are not fixed, but they will be closed once sufficient appropriate applicants are received. If you are interested in applying for any of these positions please send your CV/resumé with references and a cover letter to applications@khrg.org.
Please note that KHRG salaries are based on local salaries and are not on the same level as expatriate salaries offered at international NGOs. As an equal opportunity employer, KHRG pays local people and foreigners on the same salary scale. As a gauge, you can expect to be paid between US$250 - US$650 a month for all full-time positions, and up to US$100 a month for the intern positions. These are sufficent to live on quite adequately, as living costs here are low.

| Human Rights Fellow |
updated February 23rd, 2012 |
KHRG is currently looking to recruit a Human Rights Fellow. The position involves assisting with the ongoing implementation of KHRG's Raw Data Project as well as supporting human rights documentation and report writing activities to supplement the organisation's advocacy, lobbying, networking and campaigning at regional and international levels. Reports will be determined by local priorities and perspectives on the general human rights situation in Burma and on other important issues for people in rural eastern Burma, including ongoing armed conflict; the use of civilians to shield troops and sweep landmines; government-imposed development projects and large-scale natural resource extraction; issues affecting the rights of women, children, military deserters and convicts; exploitative abuses by state military, civilian personnel and non-state armed groups, such as forced labour, land confiscation, arbitrary taxation and looting; and forced migration and displacement. Applicants with an interest in expanding their understanding of human rights and life in rural eastern Burma, especially those interested in challenging traditional conceptions of human rights that privilege international legal frameworks, should find the position particularly attractive.
