Photo #15: Daw Ei Hla village, Shadaw township (see also photos above). This woman was 60 years old and blind, so when the villagers fled she stayed behind in the village. She fell down in her house and starved to death. Her remains were found like this by a KNPP guerrilla column 1-2 months later. The money visible beside her head was put there by the Karenni soldiers, to help her spirit on its way. [Photo: Karenni sources]

Photo #16: Koo Po Reh is crippled and cannot walk, so the others had to leave him behind when they fled Daw Leh Dah village, between the Pon and Salween Rivers. Karenni soldiers later found him like this, alone in his village. [Photo: Karenni sources]
